General Information
-Formed in 1986, by act of state legislation and endorsed by vote of islanders
-purchases properties from monies gained through 2% surcharge on real estate transactions
-puts high priority on public access, works to balance appropriate human use with environmental protection
-properties are located island-wide and offer a variety of environments from ocean front to woodlands
-properties are well managed and maintained
-parking is usually available, although may be very limited
-current director is James Lengyel, office is on Upper Main Street, Edgartown, 627-7141
